About

A Kyukamura lodge out on the Ukui headland at Nachi-Katsuura, inside Yoshino-Kumano National Park, with the bathhouse turned to face the open Pacific. It goes by Mezame-no-yu (めざめの湯), the waking bath, because you can sit in it and watch the sun come up out of the sea. There is a glass-walled indoor bath, a rock-built open-air bath that runs toward the water, single-person ceramic tubs fed straight from the source, and a fine-bubble bath called Kinuhada-no-yu (絹肌の湯), silk skin. The water is a sodium chloride spring: salty, and it holds its heat.

646. Kyukamura Nanki-Katsuura, Nachikatsuura, Wakayama ★★ Visited for day use at 1000 yen. Day use available from 11:00 to 19:30 (Fri-Wed) and from 15:00 to 19:30 (Thu). They stamp the 88 Onsen of Wakayama stamp book. They sell the 12 Onsen of Wakayama stamp book. They sell one of the seven Hokuriku/Kinki tourist stamps. 1. Outdoor zone. Consists of two levels — barrels + silk bath right at the entrance, and one level down a stone bath with an infinity setup. Great view of the sky, trees, and the bay; hawks fly by occasionally. 1.1. Silk bath, temperature 40. 1.2. Barrel with clear water, temperature 41. 1.3. Barrel with clear water, temperature 36. 1.4. Stone bath with infinity setup, temperature 41. The infinity edge is very close, especially when submerged, but it only comes together in certain spots along the bath edge. 2. Indoor infinity bath with glass. Clear water, temperature 41. Breathing inside is good. Great place, recommended for a visit. Amazing view from all the baths, pleasant atmosphere. 04.11.2025 05.11.2025
