A gentle simple thermal spring. The certificate names Beppu City's municipal Unsenji wellhead plus further sources and takes its sample at the storage-tank outlet, so what reaches the baths is a blended supply rather than a single well. Neutral in pH and lightly mineralized at 764 mg/kg of dissolved solids, the water is soft and undemanding on the skin. What lifts it above ordinary simple thermal water is metasilicic acid at 159 mg/kg, enough silica to leave the thin moisturising film that places this water in Japan's beauty-water family.
