About

Seiryuan is a small ryokan that takes only six rooms a night, and each room has its own private onsen bath rather than a shared bathhouse. Most are indoor tubs; the Sakura room instead opens onto a semi-open-air bath. The Fuji room adds a cypress tub, a bath you lie down in, and a dome-shaped ganbanyoku (岩盤浴), a sauna where you lie on heated stone. In the Ayame room, the indoor bath is lined with jade and faces the mountain stream the ryokan sits beside. The inn is also a restaurant, serving multi-course kaiseki dinners in a tatami hall that looks onto a Japanese garden. It's in Akizuki, a town outside Fukuoka City often called Kyushu's 'little Kyoto', known for cherry blossoms and autumn color. Reviewers describe the stay as quiet and almost dreamlike, deep in nature.
