Day Use
YesDay-use bathing runs 10:00 to 14:30, with a one-hour limit per visit and the baths closed for cleaning between 12:00 and 13:00. It's sometimes paused without notice for maintenance, so it's worth calling ahead. Day bathing is not available during New Year (Dec 27 to Jan 3), Obon (Aug 10 to 15) or Golden Week (May 2 to 5), and may be limited on weekends and holidays when the inn is busy.
The ¥1000 day-use fee is per person, bathing only, no meal or room included. Sauna isn't part of the day-use plan. Children (age 2 through 6th grade) are ¥500. There's no rest area, and payment is cash only. A face towel is available to buy for ¥110, and a bath towel to rent for ¥330.

Only the 3 rooms in the 曙笑庵 wing (松月/竹径/梅香) have genuine source-fed (源泉) open-air room baths. Two other room types explicitly state their private in-room baths are NOT onsen water (room-dxnana: 露天風呂のお湯は温泉ではございません; room-dxsuzu: バスは温泉ではございません) - kept the affirmative since at least some rooms genuinely have it.
Shared bathing area for all genders
No mixed bathing (混浴) is mentioned anywhere on the site (home, spa, facility pages); the main bath is described as a standard 大浴場, implying the ordinary gender-separated layout.

About
Yado Akebono is a traditional ryokan in Tsukioka Onsen, one of Niigata's well known hot spring towns. Bathing runs entirely on the local spring: a large indoor bath and a separate open-air bath with its own sauna. Guests often mention the sulfur smell and how smooth the water leaves the skin. Three of the guest rooms also have their own open-air tub, filled straight from the source. It's a quiet, unhurried kind of inn, close to Tsukioka's footbath and its shops.
