Hanamiya Ryokan is a family-run inn in Nakanosawa Onsen, a quiet hot spring hamlet near Inawashiro in Fukushima. The sulfur water is kakenagashi (掛け流し), flowing straight from the source into both an indoor bath and a large Japanese garden rotenburo said to be the biggest in Nakanosawa Onsen, plus a separate reservable private bath on the same supply. Bathers describe the water as sharp and warming, the kind that stays with you after you get out. The garden bath changes with the seasons: green woods and drifting white flecks of sulfur in summer, a full sky of stars at night, snow-viewing in winter. The ryokan is also known locally for its covered, motorcycle-only parking, a small touch that has made it a regular stop for touring riders.
