Akakura Onsen Akakura Hotel

The hot spring water here carries sulfur, and in winter the hotel opens a mixed-gender bath called Fussetsu no Yu (風雪の湯), a seasonal treat for those visiting during the ski months. The hotel building itself is old and a little worn, but it has the faded grandeur of a once-ambitious mountain resort, complete with ornate interior details. Staff are notably warm.
