熊の湯
Shared bathing area for all genders
Women are permitted to enter the men's bath.
A free outdoor bath on the edge of Rausu, maintained by local volunteers since the Meiji era, overlooking the river from a clifftop bank ringed by Shiretoko's old-growth forest. The water is sulfur-sodium-chloride with a clear sulfurous smell, quite hot (around 43-44°C) and milky-tinged; there's a cold-water hose if you need to cool things down. The men's and women's rock pools are separate, though the women's side can sometimes cross to the men's for the view. Morning visits tend to be quiet; evenings bring local fishermen.
