About
Unagi Hot Spring is a small, city-run public bath on the shore of Lake Unagi in Ibusuki. There's one indoor tub for men and one for women, no rotenburo, and nothing beyond a changing room to relax in. The water is clear with a faint sulfur smell. The bathhouse traces back to the Edo period and is known locally for its ties to Saigo Takamori, who is said to have used the spring during his stay in the area. It's a plain, well-worn sort of place that locals have kept coming back to for generations, and a stand out front sells boiled hot-spring eggs to visitors on their way out.
