About

Daishinkan is a Taisho-era ryokan built in sukiya (数寄屋) style, in the Onikobe hot spring area of Miyagi. The composer Nakayama Shinpei was fond of staying here, and the painter Taniuchi Rokuro visited too. Guests get separate indoor and outdoor baths for men and women, plus a free private cypress bath that's open whenever its door is unlocked. The outdoor bath runs clear water with a faint sulfur smell, the indoor bath draws from a separate spring with a chalky scent, and both are kept flowing fresh. It's stay only, with no day bathing.
