About

This is a small family-run minshuku (民宿) in Okuhida Onsengo, with separate baths for men and women, each pairing an indoor tub with a rotenburo on the same floor as the guest rooms. The water feels soft and smooth on the skin. There's also a free private open-air bath that the owner carved himself out of a boulder, big enough for two and open any time without booking (it closes over winter). Rooms keep it simple: eight of them, no en-suite bath or toilet, and guests lay out their own futons. The small garden, with a stream and a mountain breeze off the Northern Alps, is where people go for a cold beer after a soak.
