Shirakaba no Yu is a large day-use bathhouse at the Appi Kogen resort, home to one of Tohoku's biggest open-air baths. The men's and women's sides together hold up to 400 bathers, with a hot rock bath, a reclining bath, and other tub styles outside, plus an indoor bath with a cold-water plunge and a sauna that seats 50. The spring water is clear, not sticky, and leaves the skin feeling smooth. The outdoor tubs sit right up against beech and birch trees on the Appi highland, with sky and forest and little else in view.
