About

Mikinosato is a 26-room ryokan on a hillside above the Mase River, about half an hour by car from the crowds of Gero Onsen. Its day-use bathing wing is built around a soft spring water said to leave skin feeling smooth, spread across more than a dozen tubs and stations: a deep soak, a bubble bath aimed at lower back pain, a reclining bath, a lukewarm pool, a waterfall-style massage bath, a hinoki-lined steam box, and both a mist and a dry sauna. The outdoor bath looks over the Mase mountains, with a sky full of stars on clear nights. The village of Mase itself, known for river ayu fishing in summer, is one of the official 'Most Beautiful Villages of Japan'.

869. Mikinosato, Mazenishimura, Gifu ★ I went for a higaeri for ¥900. Higaeri is listed from 10:30 to 21:30. They were stamping the Goyoin Meguri Gifu 2025-2026 stamp rally. For the onsen, there is a Toreco electronic card, but they also give you a physical card. The bath photos from the internet match. 1. Indoor area. It feels comfortable to breathe inside. The baths, from right to left: 1.1. Rectangular bath. The water is clear, with a soapy feel. Temperature 38. 1.2. Deep bath with a wooden frame. The water is clear, temperature 42. 1.3. Lie-down area. The water is clear, temperature 38. 1.4. Utaseyu on benches for two. 1.5. Four steam cabinets. 1.6. Foot bath. 1.7. Utaseyu while sitting on stones. 4 in total, but 2 are blocked. The stream is weak. 1.8. Large bath. Three jets on each side, a bubble area, but it was not running. The water is clear, temperature 39.5. 1.9. Sauna. 1.10. Steam sauna. 1.11. Cold bath. 2. Outdoor area. It feels unusual, since all three facilities are simply placed on the grounds and are separate from one another. 2.1. On the right, a semicircular bath. Mountain view. The water is clear, temperature 41. 2.2. A small building with a sauna, but nothing inside was working. 2.3. Round well-like bath. The water is clear, temperature 33. A memorable place, with lots of different baths. Worth keeping in mind if you are passing nearby. 12.03.2026
