About

The bath here is indoor only, but a wall of glass looks straight out into the forest, so soaking still feels close to nature. The water is a deep reddish-brown, rich in iron, a type the inn says is unique to Gunma, and it comes from a source on the property itself. Reviewers mention it can tint a white towel, because the color is that strong. Hamayuu Sansou began as a rest facility for the city of Yokosuka, with a connection to the Bakumatsu-era statesman Oguri Kozuke-no-suke (小栗上野介). It's now run by the city of Takasaki. The stone-and-wood building won an architecture award, and it sits among forest and a clear river in Kurabuchi, with an auto-camping site on the same grounds.
