Kakeyu Onsen Tsuruya Ryokan

Tsuruya Ryokan at Kakeyu Onsen sits on a ravine and its main draw is a mixed open-air bath (野天風呂, notenburo) carved into the streamside rock, a colorless, odorless simple spring at a comfortable temperature, flowing straight from the source. The inn is old enough to have accumulated a lot of character: flying squirrels sometimes visit at dusk, the owner is reportedly passionate about onsen lore, and the overall feel is quiet, restorative spa-town.
