About

Chomeiji Onsen Amahanoyu (長命寺温泉, Chomeiji Onsen / Amahano-yu) sits right on the bank of Lake Biwa in Omihachiman. The outdoor area has small pot baths (tsubo-buro, 壺湯) and a hinoki cypress bath, both looking out over the lake. Inside there are several pools including a carbonated bath, an electric bath, a lying-down bath, and a radium spring kept flowing fresh. The wood-fired sauna (maki-sauna, 薪サウナ) and a high-temperature room are paired with a deep cold plunge fed by natural groundwater. After bathing, the second-floor restaurant and terrace have the same lake view.

A super sento with onsen water on the shores of Lake Biwa. Large complex, the only one in Omihachiman, tons of cars in the parking lot. In the women's section there were about 10-12 people; they say there were more in the men's. Outside there's no view, but there are deck chairs, a hinoki bath, and a stone bath with warm water. Inside: a small 38-degree bath, a large 40-degree one, a separate electric bath, a cold bath, and a jacuzzi-style one. An aroma sauna and a large wood-fired steam room (ours was 93 degrees). Photos aren't even on the official website. They give out 2 towels. Bottled milk available. Price on weekends: 1500 for adults, 500 for kids. There's a restaurant. Perfect after a packed day.
