Ishimaru is an old-style ryokan right on Ayukawa beach in Fukui, with sea-facing rooms and an indoor bath looking out over the water. The alkaline spring water is soft and smooth on the skin. Alongside the regular bath there's a seaweed bath, gentle enough that kids can use it too. The hotel is best known for its crab dinners, with Echizen crab served straight from the tank as part of the kaiseki course.
