塩の湯Shio-no-yu Spring

Shio-no-yu is a free-flowing source at Shojukan in Nakanojo, Gunma. The water is a sodium-calcium chloride spring with sulfate adding quiet body, weakly alkaline and soft against the skin. At the wellhead it carries only the faintest salty tang, and with 89.3 mg/kg of metasilicic acid it belongs to Japan's beauty-water family — enough silica to leave skin feeling noticeably smoother. Moderately mineralized at 1,522 mg/kg of dissolved solids, it has real substance without heaviness.

Salt forms a film on the skin that slows heat loss, so the warmth lingers long after the bath (the classic heat-keeping water, netto 熱の湯).

Skin-absorbed CO₂ and hydrogen sulfide relax the vessel walls; carbon-dioxide springs can raise peripheral blood flow several-fold.

常盤の湯Tokiwa-no-yu Spring

Tokiwa-no-yu is the second free-flowing source at Shojukan. It is a sodium-calcium chloride spring with sulfate lending quiet body, weakly alkaline and gentle on the skin. The sample was taken at the bath inlet rather than the wellhead, so the figures describe the water as it actually pours into the tub. Metasilicic acid at 90.7 mg/kg places it in Japan's beauty-water family, and 1,524 mg/kg of dissolved solids gives moderate, clearly noticeable body.
