Every room at Onyado Ogasawara (御宿 小笠原) is a freestanding cottage with its own private onsen, fed by a free-flowing (kakenagashi, 源泉掛け流し) natural spring. The top-tier special rooms add a private open-air rotenburo. The ryokan is built around guests who travel with dogs: there are multiple dog runs, a shared bath set aside for dogs, and meals can be ordered for them too. The restaurant looks out over the Aso outer caldera mountains.
