Amuri

Amuri is a municipal hot spring complex on the quiet coast of Kawaura in Amakusa, its white walls and red-tile roofs giving it a Mediterranean look that stands out from the rest of the town. Inside are two large baths of different character, a Western-style room lit through stained glass with colorful tile, and a Japanese-style room built around wood and stone, and they swap between men and women day by day. There's also an open-air bath under the night sky, a sauna, a jet bath, a 25-meter pool, and four private family baths (weekends and holidays only). The water is a sodium bicarbonate spring, soft on the skin. Beyond the baths, Amuri runs lodges and bungalows on site, plus a rarer option: cottages on Kamishima, an uninhabited island a short boat ride offshore, where the nights are quiet but for the waves. Sakitsu, the UNESCO-listed hidden Christian fishing village, is about ten minutes away by car.
