About

Bunke is a five-room minshuku in a thatched-roof farmhouse said to be around 150 years old, tucked into the small hamlet of Iwase-Yumoto (岩瀬湯本温泉) in Fukushima. There's no shared bathhouse, just two small hinoki (cypress) tubs, Matatabi-no-yu and Enju-yu, each booked in turn rather than used together, with the water flowing straight from the spring. It's a sodium-calcium chloride water, soft on the skin, sometimes carrying flecks of the brownish mineral residue locals call yubana. The inn keeps its old-farmhouse bones, blackened beams, tatami rooms, mountain views from the windows, and leans into a slow, homecoming kind of quiet rather than anything flashy.
