About

Kumanogawa Onsen Satsuki is a small day-use bathhouse with one indoor bath and one outdoor bath, set in the mountains along the Kumano River. The rotenburo is shallow enough to lie back in with your head against the rim, looking out over green hillsides, and it runs on the cool side rather than piping hot. There's also a jet bath inside. The water feels smooth and gentle on the skin. The building came through serious flood damage in the 2011 typhoon that hit this valley and reopened in 2014. It sits off the main road, so it rarely gets crowded, and the feel is plain and well kept rather than polished. A simple rest area and a lunch-only restaurant round out the facility.
