A sprawling coastal rotenburo (露天風呂) on Kozushima Island, with a 275-square-metre open-air pool that faces the Pacific, reportedly one of the largest outdoor baths in Japan. The water is a strong saline sodium chloride spring, and the timing is everything: arrive shortly before sunset to watch the sun drop into the ocean from the bath. There's also a smaller indoor section where swimwear isn't required.
