About

A campground beside the Hikigawa river at Chikatsuyu (近露), about halfway along the Nakahechi (中辺路) route of the Kumano Kodo, with a small onsen attached. The bath is modest, a single indoor tub, and the point of it is entirely the water: alkaline and notably slick, the sort that leaves your skin feeling coated well after you get out. Regulars reach for Sakakibara (榊原温泉) in Mie when they try to describe it. These days it runs for people staying in the tents, bungalows and cottages.
