About

This ryokan sits at Yunohana onsen in Kameoka, west of Kyoto. The bathhouse has a few separate baths: a big communal tub called Daikoku-no-yu (大黒の湯), a stone open-air bath called Ishi-buro (石風呂) where you can hear a waterfall and a stream nearby, a cypress-scented bath called Hinoki-buro (ひのき風呂) that looks out on greenery, and a herbal soaking tub called yakuto (薬湯). Guests describe the water as smooth on the skin and refreshing after a soak. Two private baths can be reserved for about 80 minutes each, and there is also a separate family bath. Several of the room types come with their own open-air bath. It's an older ryokan with a lot of decor to take in on the way to your room, guests mention the entrance and common areas as striking, in a gorgeous, bubble-era kind of way. Some rooms have been recently refreshed, others keep more of their original feel. Along with the dining room, there's a distinctive bar.

📍Syoenso Hozukawatei, Yunohana Onsen, Kameoka (pt.2) About the onsen. Honestly, I was not expecting anything special when I booked. I looked at the photos on Booking and Google, and mostly there was just one stone bath, the rotenburo. But it turned out that this hotel has a whole bath complex. Besides the stone rotenburo, outside there is also a cypress bath and two types of therapeutic baths, one with charcoal and the other with maifan stone mineral. Near the stone rotenburo, there is a small waterfall lined with stones. There are no especially beautiful views here, just the waterfall, the greenery around it, and a fence)) Inside there is one large hot bath, plus a milky bath and three jet baths. Also, literally yesterday they posted news on the website that now you can visit the hotel for day use, from 11:00 to 22:00, for ¥1,000 10.09.2025

📍Syoenso Hozukawatei, Yunohana Onsen, Kameoka (pt.1) Last year we stayed here overnight while driving around Kyoto. I came across this place by chance, I wanted to spend the night somewhere that would not be just a boring business hotel. In the end, it turned out to be a very pleasant onsen hotel. At the entrance there is a list with the names of the guests they are expecting and welcoming today! We got here by car, but from Kameoka Station the hotel can arrange a free shuttle. We took a Japanese-style room with its own onsen. The room is not super huge, but it is nice, there is a small garden, and from the room there is access to a private onsen. The downside is an old air conditioner that makes a very loud noise at night (we were there in early September, without air conditioning it would have been impossible to survive). Dinner is served in a common area, but sort of in a separate little room, although the walls between them are paper-thin, so all evening we listened to our American neighbors saying that Kelly was nuts))) The dinner itself was fine, but nothing extraordinary, they served beef (which I do not like). I liked how the hotel looks from the outside, as if you were about to spend the night in a spaceship, but the inside is great too, with this long corridor and even a small waterfall. 10.09.2025
