About

Hotel Futaba is a 78-room ryokan on a hill above Echigo-Yuzawa Onsen. Its bathing floor, called Futaba-no-yu (ふたばの湯), spans the 6th and 7th floors with three named baths, Sora-no-yu (空の湯), Yama-no-yu (山の湯), and Sato-no-yu (里の湯); each one rotates between men's and women's hours on its own schedule rather than mixed bathing. Among the tubs are a cave-shaped bath and a jet bath, plus a sauna, and the top-floor bath looks out over the surrounding mountains and the town below. About a third of the rooms have their own open-air onsen tub on the balcony (the room's indoor tub runs plain hot water, only the outdoor one is drawn from the spring), and a private family bath can also be booked by the hour. Dinner is a kaiseki course built around seasonal fish and vegetables, served in a private dining room.
