HATAGO Isen is a 16-room ryokan directly across from Echigo-Yuzawa Station. The shared indoor bath runs on kakenagashi (掛け流し) spring water, kept flowing rather than recirculated, and several of the eight room types have their own private open-air bath you can soak in any time. If you'd rather not use the shared bath, there's also a private bath upstairs you can rent for a fee. The inn sits in Echigo-Yuzawa, a hot-spring town with some 800 years of history, and pairs the baths with a restaurant built around Uonuma-grown rice and local vegetables.
