418. Yamamizuki, Kurokawa Onsen Visited for higaeri. Located in an area at a distance from Kurokawa's center, next to Miyama Sanso. Higaeri hours stated as 10:00 to 15:00. Included in the Kurokawa tegata. Private bath available for 2,000 from 10:00 to 21:00 (didn't take it). For higaeri, they let you into the outdoor bath; indoor baths are for overnight guests. The ryokan has its own branded towels. Large outdoor stone bath. Amazing view of an old cottage, forest, and river — a magnificent atmosphere. From the bath, you can climb down the rocks to the river and even cross to the other bank. Clear water with white mineral deposits on the bottom. Temperature 44-44.5. An incredible rotenburo, extremely recommended for a visit. Higaeri combines well by location and timing with visiting Miyama Sanso.

Higaeri is available; didn't ask about towels. No proper shower, but there are buckets, water, and shampoo. The bath is gender-separated. The rotenburo here is seriously amazing. Right next to a river and waterfall, no fences, because there's nothing around. Right now the maples are in full bloom, and there are lots of them around the rotenburo, so it's absolute bliss. It's a 20-minute walk from central Kurokawa, but it was totally worth it. Of all the rotenburo in Kurokawa that I visited, this one and Okunoyu are the best in terms of views.
