418. Yamamizuki, Kurokawa Onsen ★★★ Visited as a day trip. Located in an area away from the center of Kurokawa, near Miyama Sanso. Day-use hours are from 10:00 to 15:00. Included in the Kurokawa tegata (discount pass). For 2000 yen, a private bath is available from 10:00 to 21:00 (did not use it). Day-use guests are allowed to use the outdoor bath; indoor baths are available only for overnight guests. The ryokan provides its own branded towels. The large outdoor bath is made of stone. There is a stunning view of an old house, forest, and river – a magnificent atmosphere. From the bath, you can descend over the stones to the river and even cross to the other bank. The water is clear, with white lime deposits on the bottom. Temperature is about 44-44.5°C. A very cool rotenburo (outdoor bath), highly recommended for visiting. The day-use hours combine well with a visit to Miyama Sanso in terms of location and time. 14.01.2025

Higaeri is available; didn't ask about towels. No proper shower, but there are buckets, water, and shampoo. The bath is gender-separated. The rotenburo here is seriously amazing. Right next to a river and waterfall, no fences, because there's nothing around. Right now the maples are in full bloom, and there are lots of them around the rotenburo, so it's absolute bliss. It's a 20-minute walk from central Kurokawa, but it was totally worth it. Of all the rotenburo in Kurokawa that I visited, this one and Okunoyu are the best in terms of views.
