Closed to day-use bathers every Monday for cleaning. If Monday is a public holiday, the closure moves to the nearest weekday instead.
Child rate is 300 yen (adult 700 yen). Towels aren't rented, only sold for 200 yen, so bring your own if you have one.

UtaseyuThe oldest inn in the Nyuto Onsen cluster, Tsurunoyu sits at the end of a forest road under thatched roofs that have been here for centuries. The signature mixed rotenburo flows with milky-white sulfurous water, opaque enough that you can barely see below the surface, which makes mixed bathing feel natural and easy. Women enter through their own changing area and step straight into the shared bath. Four pools in total, including an indoor bath. The water smells of sulfur, the milky colour comes from fine mineral particles in suspension, and in winter the contrast of white water and white snow is quietly stunning.

The last time I was there was in May 2021 for a higaeri. A very popular onsen. Beautiful old little houses, a large shared bath, and there is also a separate women’s bath, with a passage from it into the shared bath. The views there are gorgeous, of course. And the water is pleasant. There are a lot of people, but the rotenburo is fairly long, so it did not bother me too much. I’d like to stay overnight there someday, but getting a room is not easy, of course :)
We went for a higaeri bath for ¥700, available from 10:00 to 15:00, except Mondays. One of the oldest (1638) and top spots in Nyuto. The water here is excellent, it seems it was exactly what helped my knee, which had started hurting at an inconvenient time. There is a large mixed bath, konyoku, and for women there is a separate entrance from their changing room. The water is milky blue and opaque. The bath photos online match what is there. One downside, in summer hornets fly around above the bath, and there are quite a few of them. By 13:00 a large bus with Chinese tourists pulled up... Mobile internet reception is very poor in the area, so there may be difficulties calling a taxi back. 03.07.2026

The star attraction that everyone comes to Nyuto for. As a result - crowds. But still worth it. It's off the beaten path - if you don't book their shuttle, it's a 40-50 minute walk from the bus stop through the forest in deep snow. Day-use from 10 to 15, 700 yen. A really great atmosphere and the water is also top-notch (similar to the water at Kyukamura, but more concentrated somehow). A huge mixed bath, the water is opaque and there's a nicely designed separate entrance into the water for women. 2 indoor baths, but of course everyone comes here for the konyoku. If you can only choose one onsen to visit in Nyuto, this is the one.
