Shumeikan (秀明館) in the Ubako (姥子) area of Hakone runs as a toji (湯治, restorative bathing) facility rather than a standard day-use onsen. The water rises naturally from rock beneath the bath and flows through fresh without recirculation. Two tubs sit in a small indoor bath room, just enough space for a handful of people at once. There are no showers or soap; you soak, nothing more. For those arriving in the morning, private tatami-floored rest rooms, yudoko (湯床), are available to book by the session with a yukata included. No Wi-Fi, no restaurant.
