Classification

Sodium spring

A sodium-led bicarbonate spring with a sulfur edge — classic 'jūsō-sen' soda-water territory layered with the unmistakable rotten-egg note of H₂S. The wellhead runs hot at 83.5 °C, among Japan's hottest natural sources, and still reaches the bath at 71.8 °C. Weakly alkaline (pH 8.2) and lightly mineralized, it sits in the Japanese 'beauty-water' family — soft on the skin despite the heat. Diluted with fresh water at the bath but otherwise served as flowing source water.

220. Hebinoyu Yukichi, Naruko Onsen A great public onsen. Price for the rotenburo and indoor bath is 800 each. Other prices in the photo. Indoor bath with clear, slightly cloudy water, a faint sulfuric smell from the water. Temperature 41-42. Breathing is comfortable. Outdoor bath is in a separate building - you need to walk down a bit to a small house by the river. The bath has a gorgeous view of the forest. Water is cloudy-white, with just a little white lime deposits, faint sulfuric smell. Temperature 41. In my opinion, a must-visit rotenburo when in Naruko Onsen.
