About

Katakuri-no-Yu was a city-run day-use bathhouse in Nikko, a short drive from Kinugawa Onsen, popular with local residents who bathed at a discounted rate. The spring water was plain and clear, with a faint sulfur smell, and regulars said it left the body warm for a long while afterward. The indoor bath sat in a bright, glass-walled hall; a separate outdoor bath stood in its own building across the grounds, reached by changing clothes again. Reviews from its later years reported the sauna, and eventually the outdoor bath too, closed for repairs. The facility has since closed permanently.
