A ryokan in Sounkyo Onsen (層雲峡温泉, そううんきょうおんせん), a hot-spring town set inside a dramatic gorge in the Hokkaido mountains. Three bath areas run on a daily gender-rotation schedule: an indoor bath on the 2nd floor, a 7th-floor panoramic indoor bath with a wide glass wall looking out over the gorge, and a 7th-floor open-air bath where you can see the columnar basalt cliffs and the ridge of Choyozan (朝陽山, ちょうようざん) while you soak. Dry saunas are available in more than one zone.
