Water profile

Yunoshimakan

Spring chemistry and what it does, with the research behind it.

SimpleSodium Chloride spring

Read from the composition table of the Gero Onsen analysis board: a lightly mineralized water totalling 374.4 mg/kg of dissolved solids, gentle on the body rather than assertive. Chloride leads the anions, with carbonate and an unusually visible fluoride share behind it, but the overall concentration stays modest. Metasilicic acid is generous at 59.7 mg/kg, putting the water in Japan's beauty-water family — the sort of silica content that leaves a thin film and noticeably smoother skin after a soak.

Good for

Smooth skin

Bicarbonate and alkalinity gently lift dead keratin while silica hydrates, leaving skin smooth. This is the basis of the beautifying-water (bijin-no-yu 美人の湯) reputation.

dry, rough skin

Recovery

Warmth and buoyancy lower stress markers and improve sleep; habitual bathing is linked to lower rates of depression.

fatigue, stress
