Open-air outdoor bath
Barusa Mikosu
A ryokan right on the shore of Lake Suwako. The onsen is located on the roof, offering a perfect view of the lake and the town. The water in the spring is iron-rich. The women's and men's baths alternate daily. There is a small family bath, but unfortunately without a view. The ryokan is very progressive; in the changing rooms, there are Dyson hair dryers, and at the exit, everyone can take ice cream to refresh themselves. They serve kaiseki dinner and traditional wafu breakfast. The rooms have futons and tatami mats; at the entrance, you are greeted by okami in kimono, bowing deeply. A truly Japanese experience. Not cheap, but not expensive compared to luxury ryokans/hotels. The last time I stayed, it was 2-3 man yen per night per person. In my opinion, the best option to spend an unforgettable weekend in Suwa.
