Classification

Sodium Chloride spring

An alkaline simple thermal spring blended at Gero Onsen's distribution pumping station, of the classic Japanese beauty-water family. At pH 9.1 the water is alkaline with a noticeably slippery, skin-smoothing feel, while its light mineralization (374 mg/kg dissolved solids) keeps it gentle on the body. The bath is diluted with water, reheated, recirculated, and disinfected with sodium hypochlorite before reaching the large bathing hall.

67. Ogawaya Onsen Hotel, Gero Onsen Went with a tegata for higaeri (listed Tue-Thu from 13 to 14, other days from 12 to 14). In the indoor zone there's a large bath with a smaller one inside it. The large one is hot, the small one is just warm. There's a cold water bath. Water is clear, mild smell. View through the window via a wooden lattice. The indoor bath is very cozy, spacious, and comfortable — probably the best indoor bath in Gero that I visited. The outdoor zone consists of two small baths. One is a stone bath, the other is square. Water is hot, clear, mild smell. View of the riverside promenade, but it's narrowed by a reed screen — because of this, wind barely reaches the outdoor bath area, so you can comfortably stand outside and look at the promenade during a break between soaks. The rest area has beds. Recommended for a visit, especially for the indoor bath.
