Sulfate

An acidic calcium sulfate-chloride spring generated from the volcanic steam of Owakudani. At pH 2.2 it is strongly acidic, sharp enough to prickle slightly on the skin, and the kind of water with a track record on stubborn skin conditions. The source emerges hot in the high-50s Celsius and carries 123 mg/kg of metasilicic acid.

Warmth eases stiffness and raises the pain threshold. Radon and sulfate springs show the strongest evidence for joint and muscle pain.

大涌谷温泉 蒸気造成混合泉3号線(強羅方面)と箱根登山鉄道株式会社5号、6号井蒸気造成泉(宮城野第133、134号)の混合泉Blend of Owakudani Onsen Steam-Generated Spring Line No. 3 (Gora direction) and Hakone Tozan Railway Wells No. 5 and No. 6 Steam-Generated Springs (Miyagino No. 133, No. 134)

Chloride

An acidic sodium-calcium chloride-sulfate spring, steam-generated by combining the Owakudani Line No. 3 source with the Hakone Tozan Railway wells. At pH 2.5 it is strongly acidic, prickling slightly on the skin, and counts stubborn skin conditions among its uses. A hypotonic hot spring, it emerges in the mid-50s Celsius and is brought to 40-42 °C in the bath. It carries 120 mg/kg of metasilicic acid.
