A ryokan in Shiobara (塩原) onsen where all ten detached cottages (hanare, 離れ) come with a private open-air or semi-open-air onsen bath. The shared bathhouse adds an indoor tub and a standing rotenburo (tachi-yu, 立ち湯) that is 120 cm deep, sitting right on the Houkigawa (箒川) river. A reservable private sauna (wood-fired and Finnish styles) and a private ganbanyoku (岩盤浴, hot-stone bath) are available by booking. Out on the riverbank, there is a foot bath terrace fed directly from the source.
