  • Cutsminor wounds
  • Recoveryfatigue, stress

A hypertonic, strong-salt sodium chloride spring that also carries dissolved carbon dioxide and iron(II) — denser than seawater and leaving a thick mineral coating on the skin. The dissolved iron oxidizes reddish-brown on contact with air, the trademark look of Arima's 'kinsen' (gold) water. The certificate lists indications for poor circulation, sensitivity to cold, and dry skin.

About

Choraku sits on a hillside above Arima Onsen town, with views toward the Rokko mountains and the town below from some rooms. The main baths draw on both of Arima's waters, an outdoor kinsen (金泉) bath and an indoor ginsen (銀泉) radium-type bath, plus a dry sauna. A separate bath called Kunugi-no-yu (櫟の湯) sits inside its own kunugi forest, with a standing bath and a jet bath. Book a private outdoor bath after check-in (a short walk outside and up some stairs) and you can soak in both kinsen and ginsen there too. One large tatami room has its own ginsen outdoor bath and steam bath overlooking a Japanese garden. After bathing, a free lounge serves tea and house-made sweets.

349. Ginsuisou Choraku, Arima Onsen ★★ I had a day-trip kaiseki lunch and onsen for ¥8,875. You need to book in advance (I booked on the website). The food was very tasty, and the service was also excellent. For the day-trip lunch, it seemed like there was only one other couple besides me. They issue Toreco cards for the onsen, and the card issuance for this onsen started after my visit. After lunch, you can go to the onsen, and payment was made at the exit. There are private baths, but I did not use them or ask about day-trip access. 1. Main outdoor area. It is enclosed inside, but spacious and cozy in its own way. It was especially nice in the rain. 1.1. A bath with cloudy brown water, temperature 40-41. 1.2. A bath with clear water, just slightly cloudy, temperature 40-41. 2. Second separate set of baths. 2.1. An indoor bath with clear water and a few small foamy bits. Temperature 41-42. 2.2. An outdoor bath with cloudy brown water, temperature 42-43. 2.3. Sauna. I really liked the day-trip format of food and onsen itself. The food is excellent, and the onsen part is also very solid. I recommend it both as a place to consider visiting in this day-trip format and as a place to consider staying overnight. 06.01.2025
