Jomonjin no Yado (縄文人の宿) takes just one group per day, so you have the whole place to yourself. The cypress-paneled bath has two tubs fed by a free-flowing spring, and the water runs milky white with a faint sulfur edge. Evenings center on an irori (囲炉裏, open hearth), where you grill fresh mountain and seafood yourself, a style the inn blends with touches of French cooking. Folk art fills the corridors and rooms, collected by the former innkeeper, and the inn's Jomon-people theme runs through both the decor and the food concept. Reservations are by phone only.
