Ryokan and higaeri, one of the oldest and most local places in Manze, a classic. The interior is all wood, with bear taxidermy and the atmosphere of a hunting lodge. Two baths. The indoor bath is all wood, with a source you can drink from (glasses are provided). Men and women are separated. Several washing spots. 41-43 degrees depending on the season. The outdoor rotenburo is konyoku, popular with konyoku fans, with couples there all the time, and generally sociable men and women. 40-42 degrees depending on the season. The water here is cooled in the classic way, by a set of wooden channels, just like Yubatake in Kusatsu Onsen. You can see it from outside and from the bath window. A small, old-fashioned ryokan in the far reaches of Manza Onsen with two unusual baths. The first is the covered Enju-no-yu, the water passes through a polypore vine (saru no kosikake, 猿のこしかけ) and turns a bluish-white milky color, the only bath of its kind in Japan. The second is a mixed rotenburo (kon'yoku rotenburo, 混浴露天風呂) among the rocks, wilder than at other places in Manza. The water is acidic sulfur spring water (sansei iōsen, 酸性硫黄泉), with the sharpness typical of Manza clearly noticeable.
