The bath runs around the clock on kakenagashi water piped straight from Kusatsu's Bandaiko (万代鉱) source. It runs properly hot, with a mineral tingle on the skin that a few reviewers mention specifically. The men's and women's sides are separate, but either one converts into a private family bath any time of day. Bluebell is a small pension on a quiet hillside about 15 minutes on foot from central Kusatsu, with Mt. Asama and the surrounding mountains visible from the rooms. It runs more like a family guesthouse than a hotel: the owner is known for chatting with guests about his collections and the birds in the garden, and the resident cats have a following of their own among regulars.
