Set deep in the Hakkoda (八甲田) mountains of Aomori, Hotel Jogakura has the only year-round kakenagashi (源泉かけ流し, continuously flowing fresh spring water) rotenburo in the area. The open-air baths look out over old-growth beech forest with a stream running below. Inside, a wide floor-to-ceiling glass bath hall has bubble and jet sections, plus a mist sauna fed by Hakkoda groundwater and a cold plunge. Higher-grade rooms come with their own in-room onsen bath. The building has a Scandinavian mountain-lodge feel, and kaiseki dinners use seasonal Aomori ingredients.
