The shared bath has both an indoor pool and an outdoor rotenburo, plus a sauna, and the spring water itself is soft and mild on the skin. For more privacy, one reservable outdoor bath looks out over the Kinugawa gorge, book at the front desk for a 30-minute slot, and a single guest room comes with its own private outdoor tub. Kinugawa Royal Hotel is a large, 115-room hotel in the ITOEN Hotels group, built around buffet-style meals rather than an intimate onsen stay: an easygoing, budget overnight on the river rather than a boutique ryokan.
