Every room at Hakone Airu has its own open-air bath fed by the natural spring, so you can soak while looking out at the Hakone mountain range. There is also a shared outdoor communal bath, run as kakenagashi (fresh-flowing, unchlorinated spring water), with separate sections for men and women. There is no indoor bath at all, large or small. The inn has a Balinese feel to its design rather than the typical austere ryokan aesthetic.
