Owakudani Onsen Steam-Generated Blended Spring (Line 2 / Line 3)

Operated by · 箱根温泉山荘 なかむら

Mixed source

Acidic
+ Sulfate · Chloride

A steam-generated acidic spring fed by the volcanic fumaroles of Owakudani, leaning to sulfate and chloride. At pH 2.1 it is strongly acidic, sharp enough to prickle slightly on the skin, and arrives slightly cloudy-white with a faint hydrogen sulfide note. A generous 157 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves a thin silica film that smooths the skin.

170. Hakone Onsen Sanso Nakamura Visited for day-use bathing for 1100 with a towel (listed hours 10:00 to 15:00). Used the indoor bath with a bamboo view through glass. Fixtures are a bit worn. Breathing inside is tolerable. Water is cloudy white with fine white calcium deposits, very faint sulfur smell. Temperature is hot. When I was leaving, a dog from the upper floor came to see me off. If you're hanging out in northern Hakone and it's convenient, worth visiting for the water. The bamboo view through glass isn't super impressive, but it's still a plus. And the dog is great.
