343. Kamiobo, Arima Onsen Visited as higaeri for 1000 (listed hours 15:00-18:00). They provide a towel and you can drink water from the cooler by the changing room entrance. Located on one of Arima's main shopping streets. A ryokan with an old-school horror-vibe onsen. To reach the bath area you need to go down to the basement via stairs. This is absolutely atmospheric and authentic, like something out of a horror movie like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Breathing inside is comfortable. There are two baths: one with clear water (temperature around 38.5) and one with cloudy brown water (temperature around 45). Shower, body wash, and shampoo available. Really cool atmospheric place in the heart of Arima Onsen. From the outside you'd never think this ryokan has a higaeri option with such an old-school onsen. Like, literally on a shopping street full of tourists, and minutes later you're in an atmospheric secluded onsen in a basement. Highly recommended for a visit, if the old-school vibe doesn't scare you.
