Owakudani Onsen — steam-generated blended spring (Line 2, Sengokuhara side; Line 3, Gora side)

Mixed source

Sulfate
+ Chloride

An acidic calcium sulfate-chloride spring fed by a steam-generated blend from Owakudani. At pH 2.1 the water is sharply acidic, prickling slightly on the skin, and it carries a faint milky turbidity with a light hydrogen sulfide note. A generous 157 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves the kind of thin silica film that makes skin feel smoother. It is served without heating, recirculation, disinfection, or bath additives — only diluted with water for temperature control.

About

Mount View Hakone sits in the Sengokuhara area of Hakone and is known for its milky-white sulfur water, which is relatively rare among ryokan in the Kanto region. The shared outdoor baths (Kawara-no-yu, 川涌の湯) are separated by gender and run free-flowing. There are also three private rotenburo that guests can reserve on the day of arrival. An indoor bath rounds out the bathing options. Day-use soaking in the shared baths is available.

172. Mount View Hakone Visited for day-use bathing for 1200. Listed hours 11:00 to 15:00. The website also mentions private baths available 11:00 to 14:00 for 4000 (didn't book them). Located in the northern part of Hakone. Water temperature seems to follow a special summer schedule. Inside there's a bath with clear water, temperature 34-36. Comfortable to breathe inside. Outdoor stone bath with a pleasant view of greenery and a bit of bamboo. There were two insect traps. The water is different from the indoor bath — cloudy white with fine white calcium deposits, temperature 41.5 (an older staff member took the measurement). Bath photos are from the website, they match. Solid place — both varied water in the baths and a good outdoor one.
