Ikkoten in Yufuin is built as ten separate detached villas rather than one building, and every room has its own half-open-air bath fed straight from the inn's own spring, kept flowing fresh rather than recirculated. The water is plain and soft on the skin. Two more open-air baths, each styled differently, can be booked privately by guests staying the night, both facing Mount Yufu. The approach runs through a gate that guests describe as stepping into another world: kaiseki dinners are served in private dining rooms rather than a shared hall, and a library lounge with free tea and drinks is where people read or unwind before or after a bath. Dogs are welcome throughout, with a dog run of their own on the grounds.
