Classification

Sodium-Calcium Chloride-Sulfate spring

A sodium-calcium chloride-sulfate spring blended from three Yokoyu wells. Weakly alkaline and soft on the skin, the water is almost colorless and transparent yet carries a faint salty, sulfurous edge. The source emerges scaldingly hot at 86.5 °C, among Japan's hottest, and its 199 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves a thin silica film for noticeably smoother skin.

Public Bath No.4 Take-no-yu, Shibu onsen 4th onsen of Shibu. Very old-school. Went in the evening and the temperature was absolutely nuclear - couldn't even dip a foot in without adding cold water. And I had to add cold water and stir for about 10 minutes just to be able to get in (but it was still very hot). Later at another onsen I met a foreign tourist who also acknowledged the insane temperature at this bath and showed his parboiled shins (apparently he waited less than I did for a reasonable temperature). Water is clear, I don't really remember the smell. Given the temperature experience and the process of cooling it down - a very interesting onsen, but absolutely make sure to approach the water temperature sensibly to avoid injury.
