About
Yaeikan is an old ryokan in the hot-spring town of Hakone-Yumoto, an easy walk from the station. The large communal bath has an attached open-air section, and the men's and women's sides swap each night at 10pm, so you can try both over a stay. There are also two separate reservable private baths, one looking onto a small courtyard garden, and some rooms come with their own onsen tub or a private sauna. The water is alkaline and clear, and leaves the skin feeling smooth. Dinner and breakfast, seasonal kaiseki, are served in the room rather than a dining hall, and the place keeps an old, no-frills ryokan feel rather than a polished modern one.
